I can’t imagine how cyclists manage to ride these paths when they’re wet

We just came down from that hill over there on the North side of the Colorado River, Spectacular Vista

We camped here at Williams Fork Reservoir, I can only imagine that it was once a beautiful place, today it is at 40% of its normal water capacity, a miserable looking mud hole.

Friday, September 11th, 38.6 miles and 2696 accumulated vertical feet up. 2037 Route Miles to date and this is the 7th week complete👍

So today we took off from the Williams Fork Reservoir. We were both running VERY low on water, the water in that lake was too silty to filter. At the only active creek running into to it was to difficult to access, so we rode out on the hope we’d find water somewhere, we stopped at a cross country skiing school, but hey it’s summer & nobody was around, the next few buildings/farm houses all were empty as well. A few miles into our ride, there next to the road was Eric the electrician. He was hooking up a generator to one of those big swing type irrigation booms… we asked if he had a bottle of water he could lend us? Eric reached into the back seat of his work truck and pulled out 6 bottles 3 for each of us… we were so thankful…. We chatted for a few minutes and rolled on. As the day went on, our route paralleled the Blue River and we found access to the water and filtered plenty before our big climb to Ute Pass.

Another great day to ride the GDMBR
Don’t really know what that monument is for but hey those boots on the fence posts are sweet!
What boots? Look at that beautiful sky
Aspen starting to turn
Huge mine up here on the way to Ute Pass, best I could do—most of the mining operation is behind trees or under ground 😃
Ute Pass and entering the famous “Summit County” Colorado
We have all gone skiing out there!
This was one wild ride down on loaded bikes, my brakes were screaming 😱

Three Stories as we rolled into Silverthorne;

1: as it is when you get near a destination near the end of the day we need to adjust our Ride With GPS or Garmin destinations for the most efficient route, so today we stopped on a bike path behind and between an elementary school and the fire station. As soon as we stopped here comes an Older Man (Kay he may have been younger than me or he may have been older than me but compared to our kids he was older 🤣🤣🤣🤣) “Art” was riding a very well taken care of Colnago Road Bike (Art bruh! Those are some skinny tires brother!). He helped us with the directions we needed and asked us the typical questions – great encounter- I hope I can be helpful like this sometime!

2: I’m rolling away from the Art encounter and I get one of those emergency messages on my phone (Bomb Threat and Active Shooter) shelter in place until further notice! And coming north on the bike path was a cop car and the driver was directing us to turn right which is the way we were going anyway— as far as I was concerned that was the end of that! Later we heard the incident was centered on the Common Block Hotel in Silverthorne— this is kinda like a hostel that is a problematic place….

3: You may know this but Silverthorne was a planned rest stop for this adventure. As it turns out Katie and Ryan were vacationing in this area and they made a few adjustments and I the same and we are staying in the same hotel just down the hall from each other and are doing some really relaxing off bike activities. Love you two so much and I am very grateful to have this opportunity to spend time together!
