Friday, August 28th, “ZERO” miles and 0 accumulated vertical feet up. 1410.7 Route Miles to date and 92,548 accumulated Route vertical feet up and this is the end of the 5th week.
It has been raining lightly but steady almost all day today. It is a great day for a rest day at a location with plenty to keep me occupied and good cell phone service. According to the ACA maps there’s 1689.1 miles left to finish.
Meeting and talking to all sorts of inquisitive total strangers has become so common that I have inadvertently forgotten to mention many of these instances in my general writings. Yet, these experiences are a big highlight of my trip! Please excuse me. Today we were walking out the front cabin door and an elderly couple approached us on the walkway— since there was only their car in the parking area in front of the cabin the guy asked “Where’s your car?”. Since there is only space for the storage of one bike in the room mine has been stored in the cabin’s lobby/entry hallway, he had noticed the bike. We both explained the adventure we are in the middle of, the typical questions poured forth…. Turns out it’s his 70th birthday and they are here from St. Louis to celebrate. They have a son who lives in Summit County Colorado and is an enthusiastic bicyclist, but doesn’t do bike touring or bike packing trips. Great talk and now we are off to dinner!

Saturday, August 29th, 0 miles and 0 accumulated vertical feet up – REST DAY
Very little to report today. Because we made our reservations last minute, we needed to move from our Hostel Style Cabin #464 to our new single tenant style cabin #606.
My friend John Crook (also a Cincinnati Cycle Club member) is flying out to join us until we get to I-70 in Colorado. He should be here early this evening and will be spending the night in our cabin and leaving with us in the morning…
