Friday, August 7th, 54.4 miles and 1902 accumulated vertical feet up. 584 Route Miles to date and this is the 2nd week complete👍
Today was less spectacular than some previous days going to be a quick report.
Early morning Sun behind the smoke. Smoke affected my riding today, with slight headaches and very runny nose, I’m using a neck gator pulled up over my mouth and nose to filter some of the gravel road dust and the smoke but it’s to hot to leave in place constantly. The GDMBR got interesting early but most of today was on paved roads and a busy highway I thought this was an interesting combination of natural and human items: big power pole & wires, the balls on the wires, small set of wires running perpendicular, mountains, river, railroad tracks, wild flowers, & smokeElk River Valley Kootenay River where the Elk River runs together Landscape changes near the end of the ride today. So Yes I made it to Montana today. Probably about 1/2 day early, mostly because of a great tailwind this morning, favorable road conditions in the afternoon, and a 5 mile bypass around Loon Lake.
Just North of Eureka Montana tonight.
Saturday, August 8th, 63.7 miles and 3648 accumulated vertical feet up.
Scott is back and riding with me! Over the last 2 weeks I rode the ACA mapped GDMBR from Jasper to Eureka Montana while Scott took a few days off in Jasper and then rode a shorter paved road route directly to Eureka Montana while his 3 cracked ribs were healing. We met up in Eureka and he’s feeling good enough to give it a second shot, and I’m happy to see him….We both rode well today!
You will notice in all the pictures from today that the wild fire smoke has increased to a point where it is bothering me more, constantly running nose, sore throat, very light headache…. The dust from passing vehicles on the gravel roads is adding to the issue…. Thank goodness I’m taking Tuesday off to rest!!!!
