The route starts in Jasper, Alberta Canada, a small town of about 4500 people located north and west of Calgary. The average high temperature for July and August is about 58 F. We will arrive on a Passenger Train – Rocky Mountain Express VIA Rail.
Here’s the plan, I’m sure your asking yourself how do they get their bikes and their supplies to Jasper.
We have rented a one way pick-up truck to drive from Cincinnati to Grand Forks North Dakota. We should be leaving on Sunday July 19th – the day after Jenny’s 65th birthday and the day after Peyton’s graduation party.

The trip to Grand forks is planned to end on Monday when we will unload the bikes and gear. Scott & I will then get on our bikes and ride…. to Oslo, Minnesota for our first night of Bikepacking.

There’s a border crossing into Canada on Wednesday – Note during my research I read many stories of riders attempting to ship their bikes and gear into Canada via the airlines and various services and found many complaints of delays and bikes being returned at customs. My experience in 2023, riding my loaded bicycle into Canada twice, proved to be as easy as 1,2,3.

We should be in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Thursday. There we will explore the town and catch our Rocky Mountain Express train to Jasper around 9:30 PM.
The Train should deliver us to Jasper, Alberta around 6:30 AM on Saturday July 25th.
I’m going to be missing every one of you friends and family while I’m gone so please text or call often

I’ll post on this blog when time allows, I can compose posts even when we have no service, but I can only post when I’m connected.
